Anne Fleck and Gail Kittleson

Evergreen

Virtual Writers Conference

January 22&23

Day 1- 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Mini Session: Anatomy of Story (Anne)

We’ll demystify writer speak, from Act to Beat, and give you a way to look at your writing to tell if it works, and how to make it work better.

Mini Session: Your Process (Anne)

Why is it that the advice one writer lives by makes another writer feel like all the life is being sucked out of them? We’ll discover what your writing process is, what writing advice you can ignore, and what will keep your process fresh.

Day 2 - 8:45 AM to 5:30 PM

Building Characters Who Breathe (Gail)

Aiming for characters so real you can hear them whisper their story in your ears? Several tactics bring life to our heroines and heroes. This class will focus on showing (not telling) our characters to readers and  honoring the intrinsic inner motivations that make them tick.

Creating Significant Settings(Gail)

We often think of setting as a story’s geographical parameters, but so much more is involved. Setting helps establish plot, determine and define our characters, and supports our theme. Like Dorothy’s yellow brick road, setting meshes story essentials—this class focuses on creating multi-faceted fiction settings.

Session 3: Crafting a Satisfying Plot

Ever read a book that missing “something” you can’t quite put your finger on? A misstep in plotting makes a story that is otherwise well written feel flat. We’ll talk about what makes a plot satisfying, and how to apply it to your writing. We’ll explore several different methods to visualize your plot without outlining and determine the right point to start working with plot in your writing process to keep your writing on track and invigorating.

Every workshop attendee will have a twenty minute one-on-one consult with Anne or Gail. Paid half hour manuscript consults are also available, and will be scheduled for the following weekend.
